Mr. E.C. Bailey
Along with hundreds of others in the Piedmont section, I feel a keen personal loss in the death of Mr. E. C. Bailey. I had known him for 24 years and he was truly one of earth’s saints. In the years that I was accustomed to visit out neighboring city of Greer I always knew that one man, at least, would extend the hand of fellowship, that one smile would greet me. That was characteristic of Mr. Bailey at all times, as hundreds will testify.
A kind father and a loving husband, an ardent churchman and a good businessman, Mr. Bailey was, withal, a friend of man. Scattered over portions of Greenville and Spartanburg counties are dozens if not hundreds who have been given a start in life because Mr. Bailey believed in them. He believed in extending a helping hand to others, and this faith in mankind bore fruit throughout the years. I sincerely believe that Mr. Bailey had as many friends as any person who ever lived in Greer, and that is saying much.
My sympathy goes out to members of his family, and in my book of memories, I dedicate a whole page to as fine, wholesome fellow as it was my pleasure to know. Peace to his memory.
