My dear sister & Mary
Doubtless you are beginning to think it is getting time for me to write by for the want of something new have kept putting it off. I have just returned from Frank Landrums wedding he was married on the 18th to Miss Mary Wilkins from Pacholet. I left home Wednesday and returned Saturday. We had a very nice time Uncle Theron & wife Lizzie Landrum & myself were the only ones of the relations that was invited to the wedding. Mary had to stay at home and prepare for the infare there was a good may persons present all the relations generally, and neighbors, a good many soldiers home on furlough Col Walkin & Capt Foster from Spartanburg went the rounds. Frank has a very kind wife. Uncle Landrum is perfectly delighted with his daughter. You ought to have seen me flying around with Mr. Wilkins (Franks Pa) he is a widower has eleven children, he is about forty, very good looking. he carried me to supper almost first, pade me a great deal of attention. His son was home from the Army, he is rather on the homely order. On my return home I come by to see Grand Ma she has been very sick is some better, complains of Rheumatism she could not walk for a while is beginning to walk again. She inquired about you said she would be glad for you to come and see her Aunt Margaret has been over Mother saw her at Grand Ma’s looks very well, has only one child. Uncle Moore has had a stroke of paralysis cant use one side of himself, has been very sick now for about two years. Aunt Hannah is pretty stout is grieving over her lost tooth (one of her front teeth is out.)
There is a good many weddings in our country, none I believe of much note Paschal Hawkins & Miss Leonard is married I think Mary Landrum & Lieut Jim Ballenger will marry soon, he will be at home in a few weeks, she is in a great way, as far on the extreme as she was several years ago. Whilst at Grand Mas I met Pen Montgomery son of Uncle Franklin he has a twenty day furlough, they tease him a good deal about loosing Lizzie Morgan she marries tomorrow to Crawford Tompson Ben reports Ann Chapman on the eve of marrying again to the same man, was to be married the next week when they wrote to him.
There has been a great party at Mr. Dillards it was whilst I was gone. there was a good many persons there including Bessie & Picket, they attempted to have another picnic at Brushy Creek but failed, I have not heard the particulars I went to Brushy Creek to church last Sunday the soldiers is still there, Picket was by the side of Bessie, tell [Jamie?] I saw Sanders but did not speak to him so she may know he is well which no doubt will be very consoling to her, and Mary I did not see Brown but hope he is well. I know you are anxious to know I will try and hear from him soon and let you know.
Mrs. Nancy Holtzclaw is the theme of conversation at present, Ben Morgan is flying around her in the abscence of his brother Bill, she also is visited by the Dr. occasionally, Capt Holtzclaw sais he will never live with her again, and the first sight he gets of Bile Morgan he will put an end to him.
I forgot to tell you I saw Dorah at church she came down to see Bessie I think she is well pleased told me of the marriage of William Thaxton & Kate Young, which took place last week was put off several times on account of her fathers sickness he [Died?] not long since.
I carried your Bonnet to Mrs Rose [movers?] she would not take the job said she did not have the materials, and Mrs Walton works only for provisions so I dont know what to do about it I will attend to it with pleasure if you will give some directions let me hear from you soon Mrs Walton is the only Miliner in the village of any note, if she takes it you probably may get it by Fall but it will [???] for a summer [corner?] she is very slow if you can get it done at Laurens it would be much the best I have got my hat, it is very pretty considering the materials I am having me a rye straw made Mrs. Rosemond is making it. I want to visit you all soon but had better wait until I hear from you, so I can tell what to do in relation to your bonnet,
Love from all, to all,
I am as ever your lovin sister, Vic
