Cotton Scale with 100 and 200 lb weights.
This scale was used on the farm of Broadus Campbell in Gowansville from the 1920s to the 1940s. The scale was used at the end of the day when each person's cotton was weighed. The going rate for cotton was about 10 cents a pound. The farmers would keep tally and when it reached 2, 000 pounds it was time to take the cotton to the gin. The Farmers hoped to receive a 500-pound bale of finished cotton. - Format
