THE AMERICAN LEGION

Office of the National Commander
July 1, 1979
Dear Baseball Fans:
Building America's future is a first duty of every American citizen. There is no finer youth program in existence today through which this job can be done than American Legion Baseball– a nationwide youth activity which builds physical strength, inculcates better citizenship and clean sportsmanship; and develops courage, fairy play and team spirit.
We of The American Legion believe there is no activity more truly American than the sport known as “the great American Game.” It is the aim of The American Legion, through this Baseball program, to give every boy in every community in our nation an opportunity to be in a game in which winners and losers alike prove themselves to be aggressive, alert and lovers of fair play.
The American Legion Baseball program in years past has furnished the proving ground as well as the playground of many stars who are now members of teams in the National and American Leagues. The Major League stars of today, were the American Legion Baseball stars of a few years ago. Any member of any team in this program is given his chance to be a star of tomorrow and, by playing the game, the opportunity to be a greater American in the years that are to come.
Your local American Legion Post stands ready to help in the organization and promotion of another Baseball team. Contact them for information and assistance.
Best wishes for a great season in 1979.
Sincerely,
Jack Carey
John M. Carey
National Commander
