Polly Howard Jones Tate, 79, of 102 North Miller Street, died June 30 at Allen Bennett Hospital.
A native of Simpsonville, daughter of the late Paul Goodwin and Essie Mae Howard Jones, she was a former member of the Fountain Inn Music Club.
Mrs. Tate attended Furman University and Limestone College where she received a Bachelor of Music in 1950 with a concentration in classical piano and received her Masters in Education in 1975.
She was a member and past president of Greer Music Club, and a member of South Carolina Federation of Music Clubs and a private piano instructor.
Mrs. Tate taught in Greenville County public schools for a number of years where most of the last years were at Tryon Street Elementary School in Greer and a member of Greer First Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Harry Lee Tate, Sr. of the home; two daughters, Paula T. Brown of Greer and Bonne T. Johnson of Goose Creek; a son, Bill Tate of Spartanburg; a brother, L.L. Jones of Simpsonville; and three grandchildren, Laura Johnson, Lisa Curwen both of Goose Creek and Cayce Tate of Boiling Springs.
Mrs. Tate was predeceased by a son, Harry Lee Tate, Jr., a daughter Andrea T. Smith and a brother, Jerry Jones.
Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Greer First Baptist Church conducted by Dr. Rick Ezell and Rev. Dan Ray. Burial followed in Mountain View Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Louis Waters, Buddy Kinard, Tracy Ricard, Bobby Couch, Jay Craft and Laddie Lynn Jones.
Honorary escort was the Friendship Sunday School Class and former faculty staff and administration of Tryon Street Elementary School.
Visitation was held Tuesday at Greer First Baptist Church.
The family is at the home.
